What the Zoom App does
BrainSync brings live quizzes and interactive chess activities into a Zoom meeting. The host controls the activity while each participant answers or moves from their own BrainSync panel. Scores and activity state stay synchronized through BrainSync's real-time session service.
Before you begin
- Use a supported, current Zoom desktop or mobile client.
- The meeting host must add BrainSync to their Zoom account before launching it.
- During development, the host and testers must be permitted under the app's Local Test configuration.
- The Zoom meeting must be active before BrainSync requests in-meeting context.
- Creators need a BrainSync account; participants can use Guest Mode when it is enabled.
Add BrainSync to Zoom
- Open the BrainSync listing or authorization link supplied by the developer.
- Review the requested Zoom permission and select Allow.
- Open the Zoom client, then choose Apps → My Apps → BrainSync.
- Start or join a meeting before launching an activity.
Local Test builds are limited to users authorized by the developer's Zoom account. A public Marketplace listing will be available only after Zoom approves the app.
Host a live activity
Start or join a Zoom meeting, open Apps, then choose BrainSync.
Sign in as a creator and select a published quiz or chess activity.
Launch the activity, review scoring and player settings, then keep the lobby open.
Select Invite players / Play Together so Zoom prompts participants to open BrainSync.
Wait for players to appear in the lobby, then start and control each round from the host view.
How participants join
Participants have three supported routes:
Zoom Play Together
Accept the host's BrainSync invitation. Zoom opens an individual player panel linked to the host's session.
Open from Apps
Open Apps → BrainSync during the meeting. If a collaboration is active, BrainSync connects the participant to it.
Browser fallback
Open brainsync.jrpadhi.com/play, enter the lobby PIN and a display name, or scan the host's QR code.
Guest Mode lets eligible meeting participants use the player experience without separately installing BrainSync or creating a BrainSync account. During Local Test, the Zoom developer must also enable Guest Mode Testing. Availability can vary by client, account policy, meeting role, and the app's review status.
Quiz and chess experiences
Live quiz
Players answer on their own screen. The host controls question progression, while BrainSync applies the configured correctness, speed, streak, and penalty rules and presents score feedback to players.
Interactive chess activity
Players move pieces directly on the board. The creator can define the starting FEN, board orientation, allowed side, move sequence, variations, hints, attempts, and completion rules. The host can follow progress without players exposing answers through screen sharing.
What Zoom permissions BrainSync uses
The current app uses the Zoom Apps SDK to identify the running context and coordinate a shared collaboration. It does not request access to meeting audio, video, chat messages, recordings, contacts, calendars, or broad Zoom account administration.
- Running, app, and limited user context needed to verify the in-client experience.
- Collaborate/Play Together lifecycle capabilities used to start, join, leave, and end the shared activity.
- Signed Zoom context is exchanged with BrainSync's server and stored identifiers are hashed where practical.
See the Privacy Policy for the complete data description and the Security page for protection practices.
Troubleshooting
“API can only be called when the Zoom app is running in a meeting”
Start or join a meeting, then reopen BrainSync from the Apps panel. Some context APIs are intentionally unavailable outside a meeting.
“No Permission for this API” or code 80004
The app's SDK capability is missing or the updated configuration has not reached the client. Enable the required Zoom Apps SDK and collaboration capabilities in Platform Studio, save, remove and re-add the Local Test app, then restart Zoom.
The participant sees only a shared host screen
Stop ordinary screen sharing and use Invite players / Play Together. Confirm Collaborate Mode, Play Together, Guest Mode, and—during development—Guest Mode Testing are enabled.
The app cannot load
Confirm the Home URL is HTTPS, its domain is on the Zoom Domain Allow List, the site returns required security headers, and the BrainSync service health endpoint is reachable.
Remove the Zoom App
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace .
- Open Manage → Added Apps.
- Find BrainSync, select Remove, and confirm.
Removing the Zoom authorization is different from deleting a BrainSync creator account or historical activity records. Follow the account and data deletion guide if you want those removed as well.
Hosts can open the creator studio; participants can use the browser fallback immediately.
Include the relevant game PIN or approximate time of the issue, but never send a password.
